Lee Hawkins, a former State Senator and a dentist for over 30 years, qualified Monday to seek Georgia's 9th District congressional seat in the May 11 special election.
"We'll take our conservative values to Washington to push for smaller government and the conservative solutions America needs," Hawkins said after filing papers with the Secretary of State's Office in Atlanta. "We'll fight for the Fair Tax and a Balanced Budget Amendment, and to repeal Obamacare and replace it with the real health care reform Americans want-reform that reduces costs, retains choices for individuals, and preserves quality care.
"I'm the only candidate running who has successfully run a business for over 30 years. It's important that we elect people to Congress who know how to run businesses and create jobs. My experience as a family dentist running a business will be an enormous asset to me as a Congressman.
"We'll use conservative policies proven to create jobs-real tax credits for employers, cutting red tape, and stimulating the economy with solutions such as the Fair Tax."
Hawkins noted that he was the first candidate for the 9th District seat to call for a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget. "Today's runway deficits and uncontrolled federal spending threaten the future of our children and grandchildren."
"I am pro-life and pro-family. I will protect, innocent, unborn children. As a candidate for the Georgia Senate, I was endorsed by Georgia Right to Life Pac.
"I am a strong supporter of our Second Amendment Rights. I'm a hunter and a member of the National Rifle Association. The NRA endorsed me in my campaign for the state Senate."
