Space: We Must Drill For Oil In America Now

Press Release

Date: March 31, 2010
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Heralding plans to open vast new areas offshore for oil drilling, U.S. Rep. Zack Space applauded the move as a critical part of our national energy security and a major step toward ending the U.S. dependence on foreign oil.

"God has blessed our country with vast natural resources, and we must take advantage of them," Space said. "While I'm glad that an expanded offshore drilling policy is now finally on the table, we must work in a bipartisan way to begin drilling as soon as possible."

"Drilling for oil here in the United States is absolutely long-overdue and it is long-past time for our country to rid its dangerous dependence on foreign oil," Space continued. "This is a critical first step towards those efforts."

President Obama and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar are expected to announce the drilling proposal today. It is expected that drilling for oil domestically will reduce the United States' dependence on foreign oil and generate revenue from the sale of offshore leases. Congressman Space has long been an advocate for an energy policy that takes steps toward reducing foreign oil imports by including domestic drilling, conservation measures, and innovation in advanced energy.

Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He has been working to restore integrity to the office, and to create the conditions to bring new industry and jobs to Ohio. Recently, Congressman Space launched FIGHTING TO RENEW OHIO, the second phase of his plan to provide long-term economic growth in Ohio's 18th Congressional District. More information on FIGHTING TO RENEW OHIO is available at http://space.house.gov/RENEW.
