The Boswell Brief: Immediate Benefits

Statement

I will soon consider health care legislation with my colleagues in the House that will provide immediate relief to Iowa's uninsured, small businesses, children, and seniors in the first year after enactment.

Let me share with you some of the immediate benefits of this legislation.

* Offers Small Business Tax Credits: Provides tax credits to make employee coverage more affordable for those businesses that choose to offer coverage.
* Stops Discriminatory Insurance Practices: Insurance companies can no longer exclude coverage of pre-existing conditions for children and bans them from dropping people from coverage when they get sick.
* Provides Immediate Support for Uninsured: Provides immediate federal support for a new program to provide affordable coverage to uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions.
* Addresses the Medicare "Donut Hole": Reduces the size of the donut hole by providing immediate rebates to Medicare beneficiaries impacted in 2010.
* Extends Coverage for Young Americans: Requires insurers to permit parents to keep their children on family policies until their 26th birthday.

These are just some of the benefits that Iowans will begin to see within the first year this health insurance reform legislation is enacted. For up-to-date information on health care and other legislation, visit my Latest News Blog.
