Udall: Senate Completes Work on Health Reform

Statement

Date: March 25, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-NM, today released the following statement after the Senate's 56-43 passage of the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010, which includes improvements to the historic health care reform signed into law by President Obama earlier this week. The legislation now goes to the House for final consideration:

"Today, the U.S. Senate completed more than a year of work on historic health care reform. With the passage of these common-sense improvements, we make an already strong law even better. Middle class families will see additional tax relief to make health care more affordable, seniors will be able to better afford their medications as we close the prescription drug "doughnut' hole; and parents and students will be able to better afford college.

"From the beginning, our goal with this reform has been to pass legislation that provides security and stability for millions of Americans. We do that with the reform signed into law by President Obama earlier this week, and through the improvements we passed today. This is the change we were sent to Washington to deliver, and I am proud to have voted in favor of this important legislation."
