I was proud to be a part of a historic moment for America when my colleagues in the House and Senate passed landmark health insurance reform legislation and then joined President Obama as he signed it into law.
Today, I had the honor of adding my name to the list of Senators who voted to make a good bill even better. This bill contained a package of improvements that, among other things, closed the infamous "donut hole" in prescription drug coverage that forced some seniors to choose between paying for life sustaining medications or food.
Over the last year, we have had a healthy debate in our country and our state over health insurance reform, right up to the last moments before we voted today. I have heard from literally thousands of Coloradans during that time. Many of them told me powerful stories about their struggles with the health insurance system, and I have had those stories in mind throughout our debate.
Although not perfect, this is truly legislation that will improve the health of all Coloradans -- and all Americans.
