Lance Urges Obama Administration To Be Tougher On Iran

Statement

Date: March 25, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) issued the following statement concerning negotiations for a new United Nations Security Council resolution on Iran sanctions:

"I am disappointed that the Obama administration has decided to back down from advancing tough sanction measures against Iran at the U.N. Security Council.

"Instead of backing down we should be galvanizing the international community to impose crippling sanctions against Iran. Iran's nuclear weapon program poses a threat not only to Israel and the Middle East but to the entire world.

"I call on the Administration to press for strict Iran sanctions at the U.N. Security Council and not allow the measures to be weakened. Only rigid sanctions will prove effective in stopping Iran from creating a nuclear weapon. Now is the time to act, not to back down."
