Paul Hodes released the following statement after voting in favor of the health insurance reform plan:
"I am proud to stand up to big insurance companies and support health insurance reform that will increase competition and lower costs for middle class families, help small businesses create jobs across New Hampshire, and put rules of the road on insurance companies," said Hodes. "When reform is signed into law, insurance companies will no longer be able to discriminate based on preexisting conditions. Middle-class families will have the security of knowing that their insurance will be there, so one illness doesn't force them into bankruptcy. And small businesses will have access to tax credits for providing health insurance for their employees.
"Health insurance reform will free New Hampshire's small businesses from the job-killing handcuffs of double digit premium increases, providing tax breaks for over 35,000 of our small businesses. In all, health insurance reform will improve access and care for nearly one million of our Granite State neighbors. This plan will create jobs, and provide financial security to our small businesses and middle-class families across New Hampshire."
