Statement from Governor David A. Paterson on the House Passage of Health Care Reform Legislation

Statement

Date: March 21, 2010

"I applaud the New York State Congressional Delegation and their colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives for their passage of comprehensive health care reform legislation.

"This reform will benefit New York's individuals, families, and small business owners who have struggled with spiraling health care costs, making coverage both accessible and affordable. It ensures that Americans receive the care they need -- regardless of preexisting conditions, without annual and lifetime limits, and without arbitrary drops in coverage. Most importantly, this reform will offer the 2.5 million uninsured New Yorkers real health care options.

"Throughout the health care debate, I strongly advocated for a reform package that addressed these concerns, while also protecting the State from incurring added costs. This package achieves those goals, protecting New Yorkers and our State's fiscal integrity. I urge the U.S. Senate to affirm this historic vote, pass this final legislation and submit it for the President's signature without delay."
