Rep. Herseth Sandlin's Fiscal Year 2011 earmark requests are available on her website for public review. For each request, Herseth Sandlin provides the organization or entity making the request, the address of the organization or entity, the name of the project, the dollar amount of the request, and a detailed explanation as to why the project represents a good use of taxpayer funds.
"I am proud to provide detailed information for every dollar and every project I request," Rep Herseth Sandlin said. " In order to ensure responsible use of taxpayer funds, we need an open and transparent process. I will defend these projects on their merits and sign my name to them as worthy investments in South Dakota's future."
Herseth Sandlin added that this increased level of transparency will help to crack down on wasteful and misguided spending, while highlighting truly worthwhile projects deserving of funding. She said, "I believe that as we seek to bring even more openness to the process, we should also maintain the ability, especially in rural states such as South Dakota, to advocate for critical local and national needs in a fair, ethical and transparent way."
On Rep. Herseth Sandlin's website, earmark requests are listed underneath each of the 12 appropriations bills. To view Rep. Herseth Sandlin's FY 2011 Earmark Requests, go to http://hersethsandlin.house.gov, and click on the button labeled "FY2011 Earmark Requests.
