Atchison Group

Statement

Date: March 4, 2010
Issues: Environment

It was nice to see some old and new friends from the city of Atchison who were in my Washington office today to discuss issues facing their community.

I am working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on an issue with the sewer system in Atchison affecting the Missouri river. We will continue to work on this complex situation to ensure water quality standards are met and this small community is not unduly burdened. We also hope to work with the newly appointed Region 7 Administrator to the EPA, Karl Brooks, on this important issue.

Thanks to City Manager Trey Cocking, Ladd and Karen Seaberg, Rick Berger, John Mitchell and City Commissioner Andrew Werring for coming in today and for your leadership for the Atchison community.
