Dodd Statement on Health Care Reform Summit

Statement

Date: Feb. 25, 2010

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) issued the following statement today on the President's health care reform summit. Dodd joined Democratic and Republican Senate and House leaders at Blair House to discuss a bipartisan way forward on health care reform.

"The need for reform has never been more clear. And though our path to reform has been long and difficult, the finish line is in sight. Today's summit made it clear that, casting aside political considerations, there is broad agreement on many points of comprehensive reform."

"Now it is time to do just that: set aside politics and come together around the compromises that have been carefully negotiated and incorporated into this legislation after a year of debate and discussion. That's what we came here to do; that's what the American people expect."

"I remain hopeful that this bill -- crafted in a bipartisan fashion, with bipartisan ideas and bipartisan concessions -- will not be obstructed on a partisan basis. But with the long-elusive goal of comprehensive reform in sight, we will not let politics stand in the way of guaranteeing that every American finally has affordable, quality care. We will move forward, and we will pass reform."
