Mac believes that any nation must be able to control who and what crosses its borders. He knows that the United States is a nation of immigrants and that much of our strength and success comes from having people move here from all over the world to build a better life for themselves. We want to attract the best and brightest and hardest working, but we must be able to control immigration in a way that promotes our national interests.

One place to start is the border and other points of entry. Mac supports a crash effort to put more people and technology into controlling our borders. He also supports development of methods to ensure that those who enter the country legally do not overstay their visas and return home when their visas expire.

Mac also believes that it is essential for the federal government to be able to efficiently and effectively implement the law. It is unacceptable for the federal government to take years to process an application for someone who is trying to follow the law.

He also believes it is wrong to reward those who have violated our laws by coming here illegally by giving them preference over those who have waited patiently and followed our laws to enter legally.

Mac supports a guest worker program so that workers who want to come to the U.S. for limited time to work and support their families may do so in a way that we know who enters the country, where they are, and can ensure that they return at the expiration of the allotted time.

Mac does not favor allowing illegal immigrants to receive federal benefits -- as in now the law -- and supports measures to reduce fraud and to ensure that the law is fully enforced.
