Broun Statement On Debt Limit Increase

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Paul C. Broun, M.D. (GA-10) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to increase the debt limit, for the sixth time in three years, to $14,294,000,000,000.

"After Congress' outrageous spending spree, it comes as no big surprise that the federal government has run out of money. So you know what the natural response would be, Democrats in Congress decided to bail themselves out. Rather than following the lead of the American people and cutting back, Democrats have abused the power of the purse by increasing their spending limit," said Broun. "If the American people cannot afford to go further into debt, neither should the federal government."

"I have introduced a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget that ensures Washington does not spend more money than it brings in. Congress must now make tough decisions, reign in runaway deficits, and reduce our debt. The American people are demanding this and we must not let them down," said Broun.
