Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney issued the following statement in honor of the 37th anniversary of the Supreme Court landmark decision, Roe v. Wade.

"Today marks the 37th anniversary of the historic Supreme Court decision that affirmed a woman's constitutional right to an abortion. Roe v. Wade provided women with the freedom to choose a safe medical option and allowed them to have control over their own bodies and reproductive lives. On this anniversary we must reaffirm our commitment to preserving women's access to reproductive health care, including the legal right to an abortion. "We have now had a generation of women who have not suffered from restrictions on medical procedures. Yet, even 37 years later, efforts to overturn a woman's right to choose continue to prevail. We must stand firm to ensure that women's reproductive rights are protected under law and that women's healthcare is accessible. Without access to women's health services the right to choice is meaningless and we must work to ensure women's health care is in the hands of women and not the federal government."
