Crowley Statement On President Obama's First State Of The Union Address

Statement

Date: Jan. 27, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's first State of the Union address tonight:

"Tonight, President Obama laid out a bold vision for a renewed America -- a nation that is focused on economic growth and opportunity, fiscal responsibility and innovation. Our nation's brave spirit and ingenuity is what created the strongest middle class in the world, and reviving our nation's middle class is what will get our economy back on track.

"I applaud President Obama for laying out an agenda that puts middle class families first by creating jobs, providing tax cuts for the middle class, and making much-needed reforms to our immigration, education and health care systems.

"My neighbors in Queens and the Bronx are working multiple shifts to make ends meet, to pay down their mortgage, and to send their children to college. They are the families who under the policies of the Bush Administration saw their salaries stay stagnant and their health care premiums go up. They know we cannot go backwards, and tonight President Obama offered them a vision for moving forward.

"I am committed to helping the President do what is necessary to keep America the smartest, most productive and prosperous nation in the world."
