Davis, House Extend Sales Tax Deduction For Tennessee Families Through 2010 In Tax Reduction Bill

Press Release

Date: Dec. 9, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

At a time when many working Tennessee families need good news heading into the holidays, U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis voted today so his constituents can have the ability to deduct state and local general sales taxes in lieu of state and local income taxes from federal income tax returns.

Namely, H.R. 4213, the Tax Extenders of 2009, allows for Tennesseans to deduct state and local sales taxes through 2010 among other tax relief provisions.

"My independent Tennessee values drive my actions in everything I do. I want to assure that Tennesseans are treated fairly in our tax code and will be able to keep more of their hard earned money. While extending state and local sales tax deductibility relief to our working families, we will not be adding to the national debt since it will be paid for in part by cracking down on fraud and closing loopholes that allows evasion of tax liability."
