Smith Statement On President's Afghanistan Speech

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today released the following statement regarding President Obama's speech tonight outlining the Administration's strategy for the war in Afghanistan:

"Defeating the Taliban and destroying Al Qaeda is in the vital interest to the United States. Abandoning this fight is not an option, and I support the President's decision to deploy additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

"Any strategy we pursue must have the proper resources to match it. Congress has the responsibility to prioritize our nation's spending and ensure our troops have the equipment and support they need to successfully complete their mission," Smith said.
