Rep. Barton: "We Need To Have A Victory Strategy For Afghanistan!"

Statement

Date: Dec. 1, 2009
Location: Washington D.C.

Congressman Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) issued the following statement after hearing about President Obama's plans for the war in Afghanistan:

"I am supportive of our troops and their mission. By fighting against the Taliban and al-Qaeda and increasing our efforts to rid the world of terror, we are making it safer and more secure here at home.

But I think it is ill-advised to be talking about an exit strategy before we have defeated the enemy. What we need to be devising is a victory strategy. Once you win the war, it is easy to determine how to bring the troops home.

The terrorists don't have a timetable -- neither should we."

Congressman Barton represents the 6th District of Texas. He was first elected in 1984 and is the ranking member of the prestigious House Energy and Commerce Committee.
