Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. made today this statement following President Barack Obama's speech on his new war plan in Afghanistan.
"I applaud President Barack Obama for engaging in a very thoughtful, deliberate and thorough process of reviewing our interests, goals, strategy and commitment in Afghanistan.
"I consider myself one of the President's men. But, I'm deeply skeptical about his plan. I hope and want to be convinced that it will work.
"After all, our mission's success depends on having a credible, reliable and responsible Afghan government as a partner. It also will require finding the tens of billions of dollars more to sustain the effort at a time of rising unemployment and high economic anxiety here at home.
"In the coming days and months, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my mind open. For in the end, America's strength and security is at stake."
