U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., made the following statement regarding a Senate vote yesterday in which senators voted 58-42 to reject an amendment that would have sent the health care bill back to the Senate Finance Committee to strip the more than $450 billion in Medicare cuts included in the bill.
"The president and the Democrats have decided to fund their project by slashing something America's seniors have come to rely upon heavily: Medicare. It is simply unconscionable that the other side of the aisle is content with raiding Medicare from the Greatest Generation to pay for a new government entitlement program. If taking an ax to the medical safety net for seniors in their hour of need isn't the height of immorality, I'm not sure I know what is.
