Congressman Bachus Meets With Alabama Veterans On Birmingham Honor Flight

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) today welcomed veterans from Alabama visiting the World War II Memorial as part of the Honor Flight Birmingham program.

A total of 100 World War II veterans from the Birmingham area, accompanied by 64 Guardians, gathered at the memorial on a sunny autumn day in Washington. Some were seeing the national tribute to their heroic defense of liberty for the first time.

Congressman Bachus, who met with the veterans, said, "It is a wonderful sight to see the veterans who fought to protect our freedom visit this grand memorial. Each of them and their families have a special story to tell us about the meaning of service and sacrifice. Honor Flight Birmingham is doing a great thing by bringing our veterans here to see this tribute from a grateful nation and it is a privilege for me to be associated with this marvelous program."

Honor Flight Birmingham provides a free one-day trip to the World War II Memorial for veterans from the area. The local all-volunteer chapter was founded by Pam Nichols and Amy McDonald of Shelby County.
