U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-N.M., today released the following statement praising President Obama's signing of the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act into law:

"This is a great step toward improving the care for our nation's veterans. Too often we have been faced with an inadequate, late budget for veterans' health care. Being given timely access to medical services assures vets' health care needs will be properly met. This bill will allow veterans' hospitals and clinics the appropriate time to gain the services they need," Udall said.

The bill will allow the Department of Veterans Affairs up to one full year to plan an efficient and effective way of delivering health care to our nation's veterans by authorizing Congress to approve veterans' medical care funding one year in advance and provides for annual audits to ensure sufficient funding is being included.
