McDonnell Announces "New Jobs, More Opportunities: It Starts Now!" Statewide Tour

Press Release

Date: Oct. 26, 2009
Location: Richmond, VA

Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial nominee and former Attorney General of Virginia, will conclude his campaign for governor with a 5-day dash across the Commonwealth. The "New Jobs, More Opportunities: It Starts Now!" statewide tour of Virginia will bring McDonnell to 25 different localities from Tazewell to Virginia Beach to Alexandria. McDonnell officially launched his gubernatorial campaign in March with his "New Jobs, More Opportunities" 6-day 22 stop tour of Virginia.

Speaking about the final statewide tour of the gubernatorial campaign McDonnell remarked, "It has been the greatest honor of my life spending the last 8 months meeting Virginians in every part of our state, learning about what they want to see out of Richmond, and sharing our positive ideas to create new jobs and more opportunities statewide. When we launched this campaign in March we did so with a promise to advocate innovative solutions to the shared challenges we face. That is what we have done and that is what Virginians deserve from their candidates for public office, especially in these difficult times. This final tour will bring us back to many of the same places that we visited when we kicked off the campaign. And we will return with the same message that we had then: working together we can create the new jobs we need, and ensure more opportunities for all Virginians. This is a critical election for Virginia's future. To get our economy back on track we must keep taxes low, control spending, get traffic moving again and improve our schools. I look forward to bringing our positive message and positive vision to Virginians in every part of the Commonwealth in the final 120 hours of this race."

In the months following McDonnell's official campaign kick-off tour in March he has unveiled 23 comprehensive policy proposals all focused on promoting job creation in every corner of the Commonwealth. The proposals include implementing a comprehensive statewide transportation plan; improving affordability and accessibility in Virginia's higher education system; putting half a billion dollars more per year into Virginia's classrooms without a tax increase; placing Virginia in the vanguard of the national charter school expansion effort; making Virginia the "Energy Capital of the East Coast"; and ensuring that Virginia becomes the best state in America in which to open a small business.

Below is the official tour schedule. Detailed logistical information will be released daily for the following day.
