Op-Ed: Brown Remains Committed To Our Veterans And National Security

Op-Ed

Date: Oct. 8, 2009

Today, I voted in favor of the Republican Motion to Commit the Conference Report on the National Defense Authorization Act, legislation that would have amended the Conference Report to expand eligibility for veterans to receive their military retired pay and disability compensation simultaneously, language that was included in the House-passed bill.

Additionally, the motion would have prevented detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from being transferred or released into the U.S. The American people have spoken on this issue and they object to housing suspected terrorists in their backyards.

While it failed to pass, this motion demonstrated the Republican commitment to our veterans and to the safety of our constituents.
