U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Bainbridge Township) said Eagle Creek Wholesale in Mantua will receive $65,041 from the federal government for a wind turbine project at 10151 Asbury Road, Mantua.
Eagle Creek, a garden and lifestyle company, installed the 50 kilowatt wind turbine with the goal of reducing its annual energy consumption by up to 40 percent, and hopes to install a second turbine so it can generate 80 to 100 percent of its energy at the site of its wholesale facility in Mantua. The first turbine was funded largely by Eagle Creek, with assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Ohio Department of Development.
"I commend the folks at Eagle Creek for their innovation and leadership in going green, and I'm glad this federal funding will help in their efforts," LaTourette said.
In addition to facilities in Mantua and Portage County, the family-owned Eagle Creek also has a large retail operation at 18548 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge. Both the Mantua and Bainbridge facilities are in the 14th District, LaTourette said.
The grant for Eagle Creek is part of Section 1603 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act, also known as the stimulus bill. Eagle Creek will receive the grant in lieu of an Investment Tax Credit. The purpose of the grant payment is to reimburse eligible applicants, such as Eagle Creek, for up to 30 percent of the costs of the turbine project, LaTourette said.
