Rogers Supports Rescinding Medicare Premium Hike

Press Release

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, released the following statement today after the House voted overwhelmingly to stop Medicare premium increases in 2010:

"At a time when many Michigan seniors are struggling to make ends meet, sharp increases in Medicare premiums would make their economic burdens even worse. The measure I supported today lowers Part B premiums next year for more than 11 million American seniors. This is a good first step toward protecting the health care needs of seniors, especially low-income and disabled seniors. The next step should be to protect any seniors' Medicare benefits in any upcoming health reform legislation."

EDITOR'S NOTE: According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), proposed health care reform legislation in the House (H.R. 3200) would cut more than $400 billion from Medicare services, including the areas of Medicare Advantage, hospitals, home health, nursing and hospice care.
