Johanns Gets Third ACORN Funding Ban Passed In Senate

Press Release

Date: Sept. 29, 2009
Location: Washington, D.C.

For the third time this month, Senator Mike Johanns won Senate approval for legislation to bar the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) from receiving federal funding. Senator Johanns' amendment to a bill that funds the Department of Defense (DOD) will ensure ACORN is barred from receiving taxpayer dollars under this bill.

"I would prefer to block ACORN from receiving federal funds once and for all in a single bill, but no vote has been scheduled on the bill I introduced that would do just that," Johanns said. "Until it is brought to the floor, I will continue to protect taxpayer dollars by amending each spending bill to defund ACORN."

Senator Johanns' stand-alone bill, the Protect Americans from ACORN Act, currently has 22 cosponsors.
