U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) released the following statement today in response to HHS Secretary Thompson calling the legalization of prescription drug imports 'inevitable.'

"After two days of this discount card, Secretary Thompson is acknowledging that the only real way to drive down the price of prescription drugs is to allow importation from Canada and Europe where prices are 30 to 80 percent cheaper.
I applaud Secretary Thompson for having an open mind on this issue because having an open mind is the key to bipartisan progress."
