Sen. Voinovich Statement On Unveiling Of Senate Finance Health Care Proposal

Statement

Date: Sept. 17, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH) today released the following statement after Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) released the America's Healthy Future Act:

"I appreciate the work Chairman Baucus and my colleagues have put forth on their health-care reform proposal. I am currently reviewing the details of this lengthy bill. I hope it keeps with President Obama's commitment that federal dollars will not be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.

"Most of all, I hope my colleagues who worked on this proposal agreed with the president that this reform plan should not push our country further into what is already a catastrophic national debt. We can no longer pass the buck to future generations. Just this week, I took to the Senate Floor to update my colleagues on the fiscal train-wreck America is facing -- a fact Congress and the President have ignored thus far. This health care package should be paid for. As the president said last week, we have a number of things to continue working on from here, and I am hopeful the Chairman's proposal will be a step in the right direction."
