Shelby Statement On President's Joint Session Speech
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), tonight made the following statement in response to President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress regarding health care reform:
"The President tonight expressed his continued support for a public option, but still provided few specifics as to how it would be paid for. He also failed to explain how a public option would not lead to a government takeover and rationing of health care. There are sensible and positive reforms that we can pursue to build on the strengths of our current system, but as long as the President continues to pursue a government-run plan I remain in strong opposition."
