Rogers: Abandoning Defense Shield Endangers US, Allies

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, Ranking Member on the House Intelligence Subcommittee on Terrorism, Counterterrorism and Human Intelligence, released the following statement today regarding reports that President Obama has decided to scrap the missile defense shield planned for Eastern Europe:

"Protecting America's national security is not an international popularity contest; it must be the top priority of an American President. Abandoning a missile defense system in Eastern Europe that would protect America and our allies from a missile attack leaves us more vulnerable and hangs our Polish and Czech allies out to dry, all while their troops are fighting al Qaida in Afghanistan. As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I will be asking some very tough questions of President Obama's national security team about this troubling decision and what alternative plan the Administration has to protect the United States and our allies from missile attacks by nations like Iran and North Korea."
