Kosmas To Participate In National Night Out With Winter Park Police To Promote Public Safety

TOMORROW, Tuesday, August 4th, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24) will participate in the annual National Night Out program at the Winter Park Police Department. Kosmas will meet with constituents and take a tour of the police and fire stations, after which she will participate in a ride-along with a Winter Park police officer to promote public safety issues.

National Night Out (NNO) is a nationwide event held every year on the first Tuesday in August. The goals of NNO are to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Congresswoman Kosmas has supported numerous measures to increase public safety in Central Florida. Recently, funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was awarded to Florida to save or create more than 420 police officer positions across the state. Additionally, Kosmas passed an amendment to the Department of Homeland Appropriations Act that will provide $4 million for the Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS) to improve coordination among first responders.
