Hatch Statement On The Passing Of Eunice Kennedy Shriver

Statement

Date: Aug. 11, 2009
Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) issued the following statement today about the passing of Eunice Kennedy Shriver:

"It saddens me to hear about the passing of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, whom I regard as a dear personal friend and for whom I have always had the most profound respect and utmost admiration. She was a tireless advocate for children, the disadvantaged and Americans with intellectual disabilities - an advocacy that led to the creation of the Special Olympics. Her legacy of devoted service to and abiding love for others has endeared her to millions and is destined to endure the test of time. There is no patent pending for Eunice Kennedy Shriver. She is an American original, and the world will be a poorer place for her absence. I will greatly miss her. Elaine and I feel honored to have known such a remarkable woman, and our thoughts and prayers are with members of the Shriver and Kennedy families at this difficult time."
