Udall Hails Supreme Court Decision in Colorado Redistricting Case

(Granby, CO) - Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) released the following statement following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to reject the Republican appeal in the Colorado redistricting case:

"The U.S. Supreme Court has brought down the curtain on the Colorado redistricting drama. I'm gratified by their decision not to hear the Republican appeal in the case. Although the Republicans did me a favor by passing a plan that made my district safer, I opposed the gerrymander because it was a blatant attempt to carve up Colorado in a way that disenfranchised independent voters and created uncompetitive districts. Their plan was not good for Colorado.

The Supreme Court decision gives voters certainty when they go into the voting booths, reinforces the idea that redistricting should only occur once every ten years, and keeps competitive districts in place. History shows when someone represents a competitive district, he or she must be accountable to their constituents and they have to build some accomplishments and focus on problem solving. Competitive districts produce a healthier outcome for the public.
