Congressman Phil Hare today released the following statement criticizing the Treasury Department's decision to provide an additional $30 billion in taxpayer money to American International Group (AIG).
"I wholeheartedly oppose giving more taxpayer money to AIG. This is a company that spent $440,000 on a luxury retreat less than a week after receiving their first federal bailout. To make matters worse, AIG then spent $86,000 on an English hunting trip and had scheduled a second retreat before public outrage forced them to cancel it.
"AIG should not receive another dime from the federal government until its CEO has formally submitted his resignation and every dollar spent on these luxurious getaways is returned to the treasury.
"Enough is enough. Giving more taxpayer money to AIG is an insult to every hard working American struggling in this current economic crisis."
