Rep. Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement today after President Obama signed an executive order lifting the Bush Administration's ban on federally financed human embryonic stem cell research:

"By signing the executive order to lift the ban on funding for embryonic stem cell research, President Obama has opened the door for millions of Americans living with degenerative diseases, and their families, to have hope for a cure. I fully support President Obama's order and look forward to working with the White House and Congress to provide funding for this very important scientific research that will save lives and stimulate the economy."
