Fortenberry Resolution Honors Important Role Of General Aviation

The House of Representatives this week approved Congressman Jeff Fortenberry's resolution, H. Res. 508, recognizing the many contributions of America's general aviation industry. General aviation includes all civilian flying except scheduled passenger airlines.

"General aviation plays an important role in the everyday lives of Americans," Fortenberry said. "In the U.S., approximately 500,000 licensed pilots provide a range of essential services, including transporting patients and medical supplies in emergency situations, assisting law enforcement with patrols, protecting the environment by monitoring parks and surveying wildlife, and providing commuter services to businesses, families, and individuals, among others. The general aviation industry employs nearly 5,000 persons in Nebraska, and 1.3 million employees nationwide, who hold highly specialized jobs in aircraft manufacturing, avionics and technology development, flight training, maintenance, modification, and technical support. By adopting this resolution, the U.S. House of Representatives is appropriately recognizing their great contributions to our society and economy."

H. Res 508 honors the work of nearly 1.3 million Americans in the general aviation industry, which is estimated to contribute more than $150 billion in direct and indirect economic output in the U.S.
