Klobuchar Statement Regarding the 2nd Anniversary of Tragic I-35W Bridge Collapse

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar issued a statement today remembering the victims of the I-35W bridge collapse in the lead up to the second year anniversary of the tragedy. The full text of Klobuchar's statement is below:

"At 6:05 on Saturday evening, I will join Minnesotans in observing a moment of silence to commemorate the collapse of the 35W bridge two years ago. August 1, 2007, was a day of shock and suffering for Minnesota and we have a duty and an obligation to remember what happened.

"We should remember, first of all, the 13 people who died and the families they left behind. And we should remember the survivors, some who came away miraculously unharmed and others who continue to live with very serious injuries.

"Let us also remember the many Minnesotans, first responders as well as citizen bystanders, who risked their own lives by running toward a disaster, instead of away, to help people in need. And let us remember how we came together to build a new bridge that now stands where the other fell. Finally, as we look back, let us look forward and do what is necessary as a nation to make sure a disaster such as this never happens again to a bridge in America."
