The office of Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla., issued the following press release:

U.S. Third District Rep. Frank Lucas was honored recently by the Small Business Survival Committee (SBSC) for consistently voting in favor of small businesses during the 2003 congressional year.

Lucas received the "2004 Small Business Advocate" Award. This award is presented to Members of Congress who support legislation that is favorable to the growth and survival of small businesses.

"Small businesses are the engine of growth for our recovering economy," said SBSC Chairman Karen Kerrigan. "By standing up for small businesses Rep. Lucas is playing a vital role in encouraging our current economic recovery. The measures Rep. Lucas voted for will help small businesses stay strong, innovate, invest, and create jobs for the long term."

Lucas expressed his appreciation for the award and stressed the importance small businesses play in our economy.

"I am honored to receive this award," Lucas said. "Small businesses are the heart and soul of our economy, and I will continue my work to make sure small business operators have the resources they need provide the best products and services possible for the American people."

Included among the key votes scored by the Small Business Survival Committee were votes to lower taxes, end the death tax, expand U.S. markets overseas, and lower the cost of health care.
