The office of Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla., issued the following press release:

U.S. Third District Rep. Frank Lucas announced today Oklahoma School of Science and Math senior Zane Nitzel received full appointment to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point next fall.

"Zane's appointment to West Point is a tremendous achievement," Lucas said. "His hard work has paid off and I know he will continue to make his family and the people of Oklahoma very proud."

Nitzel is a senior at the Oklahoma School of Science and Math where he participates in Student Council and is on the basketball team. He is also involved with the United Methodist Church Leadership Camp and was named to "Who's Who" among American high school students. His parents are Gregory and Jessie Nitzel of Calumet.

Congressman Lucas nominated Nitzel, along with 22 other Oklahomans, to submit his application process to the military academy. Applicants must submit to Lucas a copy of their most recent student transcript, their ACT or SAT test scores, and at least three letters of recommendation along with their written application. Each year Lucas and his staff review the applications and recommend the most qualified applicants for nomination.

"The U.S. military has produced some of the greatest leaders the world has ever know," Lucas said. "We are fortunate to have institutions like West Point, where our future leaders can receive the best training possible to protect the citizens of this great nation."
