Representative Weiner Statement On President Obama's Immigration Plan

Statement

Date: April 9, 2009
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Representative Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens), the only member of the New York City delegation who sits on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, released the following statement on President Obama's proposed immigration plan, which would include a path for illegal immigrants to become legal and would strengthen border enforcement:

"It is vital to the fabric of our nation and the strength of our economy that we address the sorry state of our immigration laws. President Obama understands this. It won't be easy, but if we leave the demagoguery at the door, I am convinced we can find bipartisan consensus that produces reform that helps our economy and demonstrates our humanity."
