Bono Mack Calls for Bipartisan Solutions on Health Care Reform, Not Government Takeover

Urges Congress to take the time to do this right

Emphasizing the importance of taking the time to enact bipartisan solutions to improve access to affordable health care without forcing a government takeover, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack today issued the following statement on the Democratic health care plan that remains stalled in the House Energy and Commerce Committee:

"Americans deserve real health care reform that will result in better access to affordable, quality care," said Bono Mack. "What we have seen from this Democratic health care proposal, being cobbled together in back rooms, is flawed legislation that does little to constrain health care costs, forces trillions of dollars in new spending and taxes that will increase our already massive federal deficit and burden our small businesses, while still not providing Americans with assurance that they can keep the coverage they want."

"Such a complex and important issue as health care reform demands bipartisan solutions that will benefit all Americans. Congress certainly shouldn't jam a flawed bill through Committee for the sake of getting home for the August work period. At a time when so many families are struggling to make ends meet, we need to take the time to do this right.

"I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to enact changes that will make quality health care more affordable and more accessible for Americans, without a government takeover of health care that puts bureaucrats between patients and their doctors and cripples our already burdened economy with new, unsustainable entitlement spending."
