Radanovich Applauds Proposed Modifications To ESA Regulations

Congressman George Radanovich today released the following statement after the Department of the Interior issued a proposal to amend existing Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations to prevent the ESA from being used to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

"I commend Secretary Kempthorne for his foresight in acknowledging that the ESA is not the proper tool to regulate greenhouse gas emissions or set U.S. climate policy.

"Unfortunately, the ESA has long been abused and manipulated for purposes other than what it was originally intended. This misuse is no better evidenced than here in California where activist judges have clung to the ESA to impose devastating judicial rulings on our water supply, giving deference to fish over man and severely harming our local economies.

"This regulatory proposal is a step in the right direction towards comprehensive ESA reform and I urge its adoption."
