Press Release

Date: April 29, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) issued the following statement on President Obama's first 100 days in office:

"In the first 100 days of President Obama's Administration, we have seen America start on a new path. President Obama and his Administration have worked hand-in-hand with Democrats in Congress to pass several landmark pieces of legislation that have been signed-into law and are already making real differences in the lives of Sacramentans.

"Looking back over the past three months, there is a lot for Americans to be proud of. The House, Senate, and President came together to pass the most ambitious economic recovery package in our nation's history. The money from this act has already begun to help stimulate job growth in the Sacramento region, and as of today, nearly $200 million has been allocated to Sacramento to help get our community back to work.

"From following through on our commitments to the middle class; enacting tax breaks for 95 percent of working Americans and measures to make college more affordable; extending health care coverage to millions more uninsured children of working families; and signing the Lily Ledbetter law that restores fair pay rights for women - with President Obama in the White House we are investing in American families.

"In the coming days, as President Obama's budget is signed into law, we will lay the groundwork for the next generation to succeed. By investing in our promise to the future, we can accomplish comprehensive health care reform, make key investments in our nation's education system, and bolster the green energy economy in Sacramento and across the country.

"We have begun a new course under President Obama's tenure. The work ahead of us will lead to a stronger middle class, improved credit markets, a reduced deficit, and a reassured place on the world's stage. I know President Obama has the country's best interests at heart and his dedication to making real differences in the lives and livelihoods of all Americans. He has made good on his commitment to America's families in his first 100 days, and I look forward to working with President Obama every day to continue to deliver for Sacramentans."
