U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today made the following statement regarding President Obama's executive order to create a White House Council on Automotive Communities and Workers.

"Today's announcement further demonstrates the Obama Administration's commitment to helping communities that are most affected by restructuring in our automotive industry. With a new White House Council on Automotive Communities and Workers in place, Dr. Montgomery and his team will have the resources they need to provide additional federal support to workers and families who need it most.

"In Michigan, we know that to get our economy back on track, we must continue to invest in advanced technology and revitalize the manufacturing centers across our state. America must also commit to a 21st Century manufacturing strategy that will give our workers opportunities for jobs in the emerging clean energy economy. We have the best workforce in the world. As Dr. Montgomery has seen firsthand, in Michigan, companies and workers are eager to retool plants and build the new technology that will lead the global marketplace.

"I am confident that this council will provide the assistance and recommend the right policies to do just that."

-U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow
