Congressman Barney Frank today released the following statement regarding a floor speech by Senator Lamar Alexander. In his speech, Alexander facetiously named Frank the "Car Czar" for helping to protect jobs at the GM part center in Norton, MA. (See video of Alexander's speech here.)
"While it's flattering to receive an award, I think the Congressman overstates my power. But I appreciate his recognition of the fact that I will do everything I can to help the working people of Norton and the surrounding area."
"If I had the power of a czar, I would completely stop job losses in Massachusetts and the rest of the country. I would also revive the economy, fix the health care system, and make college more affordable for American families. And if I had had that power just a few months ago, I would have overcome Senate Republicans who blocked a very good bill which could have saved jobs in the auto industry."
"But even lacking that power, I will continue to fight for what's right."
