Congressman Parker Griffith today praised the passage of H.R. 2346, the Supplemental Appropriations Act. The bill supplies our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq with equipment and funding, provides post-9/11 veterans with stop-loss compensation, and fully funds military pay and refocuses military efforts on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"Our military men and women are fighting for us at home and abroad. They are our future veterans. I am thankful for this opportunity to fight for them," Griffith said. "This bill protects our troops, provides adequate pay and helps ensure that they return home safely. As our nation prepares for the end of operations in Iraq, this legislation lays out a clear plan to fight our enemies in Afghanistan and Pakistan and to stop the spread of terrorism throughout the Middle East."

The Supplemental Appropriations Act requires a report to Congress on an assessment of the performance of Afghan and Pakistani governments by February 2010. The legislation also provides for solutions to some of America's most persistent problems.

In addition to extending benefits to our troops, this bill prohibits Guantanamo detainees from being released into America, combats problems along the Mexican border, and gives our automobile industry a shot in the arm that it desperately needs.
