Senator Murkowski Thanks the Humane Society for Aiding Sled Dogs in Rural Alaska Affected by Recent Flooding

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today thanked the Humane Society of the United States for its work in addressing the plight of hungry sled dogs affected by the recent flooding throughout Alaska.

As a result of ice jams along the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers that caused extensive flooding during this year's spring melt, dog food caches and fish wheels were damaged or destroyed. In coordination with the Humane Society, Hill's Pet Nutrition is supplying the food for the sled dogs and the Alaska Civil Air Patrol has been transporting the dog food as needed to many of the affected villages, including Eagle, Tanana and Bethel.

"I applaud the Humane Society, Hill's Pet Nutrition and the Alaska Civil Air Patrol for their hard work and generosity," said Murkowski, who sent a letter of appreciation to the Humane Society. "They have brought a measure of comfort to Alaska's sled dogs and the communities that rely on them."
