Van Hollen Statement on President Obama's National Fuel Efficiency Policy

Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on President Obama's Announcement on National Fuel Efficiency Policy:

"President Obama's National Fuel Efficiency Policy, which is designed to both increase gas mileage and decrease greenhouse gas pollution for all new cars and trucks sold in the United States, demonstrates his clear commitment to address the energy crisis facing our nation. It is part of a larger effort by both the President and Congress to stop running from the difficult problems facing America and to build a clean energy economy in our nation.

"The Recovery Plan made a historic investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, and President Obama's budget builds on that investment. Now, Congress is working on comprehensive clean energy legislation that will create jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and invest funds in alternative energy sources."
