Rep. Pitts praises President for recognizing two victims, two crimes
Washington-Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) today praised the President for signing into law H.R. 1997, the Unborn Victims of Violence Act or "Laci and Conner's Law." Pitts released the following statement regarding the signing.
"When a pregnant woman is attacked, two crimes are committed," said Congressman Pitts. "One against the woman, the other against the unborn child. Unfortunately, pregnant women are targets of criminals who intend to harm them and their unborn children. These criminals know exactly what they're doing. They attack pregnant women with the intent to kill two people. Most states understand that. But until now, federal law ignored it.
"Today, that injustice has been resolved. President Bush's signature on 'Laci and Conner's Law' will close a terrible loophole that has existed in federal law for far too long. I commend the President for signing this importance piece of legislation and for all those who worked so long and hard to bring justice to those who inflict such terrible on families around the nation," said Congressman Pitts.
